Surfactants

SierraQuat TAM 2 DES

Chemical Name / INCI:

Polyethylene Glycol Hydrogenated Tallow Amine Ethyl Sulfate

CAS #:

68071-98-7

Chemical Family:

Cationic Surfactants > Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

OVERVIEW

SierraQuat TAM 2 DES is a highly active quaternary ammonium derivative, also referred to as a quaternary ammonium salt or tallow amine quaternized with diethyl sulfate, made from the reaction of tallow amine 2 and diethyl sulfate. The resulting chemical intermediate is a strongly charged cationic surfactant that can be used in detergent formulation, process auxiliary formulation, and as a cationic emulsifier. SierraQuat TAM 2 DES is very common in the formulation of levelling agents for retarding anionic dyes (acid, direct, reactive, milling, and premetallized acid). As a cationic emulsifier, SierraQuat TAM 2 DES is very effective for most systems. The material is more easily dispersed than some cationic surfactants but still will need adequate mixing and is more readily dispersed into warm water. SierraQuat TAM 2 DES is used in some flocculant systems to provide a higher charge when the target for removal is anionic.
